For my brother,

Mark

+

Father God, I come before You right now lifting up my brother Mark. Lord, Your Word says to taste and see that You are good, and that the man who trusts in You is blessed. I anchor this week's prayer there, because Mark is carrying two things at once that both test whether a man believes You are good: a father fighting cancer and a financial fight that keeps getting set back.

Lord, I lift up Mark's dad. Keep healing him. Let every treatment do more than the doctors expect. Strengthen his body, steady his recovery, and give him days that feel like life again instead of just fighting. Be close to him, Father, and be close to Mark as he watches his dad walk through this. Give the whole family peace that does not depend on the next scan.

Father, I lift up Mark and Shelly and the financial weight they have been carrying. You know how long they have been trying to get ahead. You know every unexpected setback that has knocked them back just when they thought they were gaining ground. Lord, that is exhausting, and it can make a man wonder if he is being punished. He is not. Speak that clearly to him this week.

Bless their finances, Father. Bring provision they did not see coming. Close the leaks. Give them wisdom in every decision and favor in every conversation about money. And give them unity in it. Let this be something Mark and Shelly face together, side by side, instead of something that divides them. Let them taste Your goodness in a place that has felt like a drought.

Lord, remind Mark that trusting You with money is not the same as pretending the numbers are not real. It is bringing the real numbers to a real God who owns everything and is good.

And Father, I rebuke every attack of the enemy on Mark, on his dad, on his marriage, and on his finances. Satan, you have no authority here. You do not get to use cancer to whisper that God is not good. You do not get to use setbacks to convince Mark that God is not paying attention. You do not get to drive a wedge between Mark and Shelly over money. We see your schemes, and we shut the door on every one of them in the name of Jesus.

Father, build a wall of protection around Mark's home, his marriage, his dad's body, and their finances. Send Your angels ahead of him into every conversation and every bill this week. Let him feel Your nearness so clearly that the enemy's voice loses every inch of ground it tried to take.

Refill what is empty, Lord. Give Mark moments of joy this week that come out of nowhere, just to remind him that You see him, You delight in him, and You are fighting for him.

I thank You for Mark. I thank You for a brother who, in the middle of his own weight, still asked what he could pray for me. That is Your goodness showing up in him.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Taste and see that the Lord is good, brother. I know that is a hard sentence when your dad is fighting cancer and the finances keep getting knocked backward. It can feel like God's goodness is something you are always one setback away from.

But listen to what David is actually saying in that verse. He is not saying life is good. He is saying the Lord is good. Those are different claims. Circumstances shift. His character does not. The same God who is good on the day the treatment works is good on the day the car breaks down and the emergency fund is gone again.

Trust is not believing the setbacks will stop. It is believing that God is good and present inside each one, and that He is not finished providing. Keep bringing Him your dad. Keep bringing Him the numbers. He is not tired of either.

  1. Each morning this week, say one sentence out loud before checking anything: “The Lord is good. He has my dad, and He has our finances.” Say it whether you feel it or not.
  2. Sit down with Shelly once this week, not to solve the budget, but to pray over it together. Two minutes. Thank God for what you do have, and hand Him what you do not. Do it as a team.
  3. Call or text your dad this week and tell him one specific thing you are thankful for about him. Let him taste God's goodness through his son while he is fighting.
“O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”
Psalm 34:8 KJV
